Star System Generator Demo

This is an updated version of an older commandline tool to create pseudorealistic Star Systems. This version can visualize the data and you can fly around in the Star system. The colors represent the Temperature zones of the System. Red is very hot close to the Star, Green is the Habitable zone where liquid Water is possible while Blue is too cold and frozen. The white lines represent the Orbits of the Planets. The blinking green line shows the optimum distance of a habitable planet, but their distance could vary from that as other factors than distance are important to decide if a planet is habitable or has a good ESI (Earth Similarity Index).

In the screenshot for example it created a Class A Star which is larger and hotter than our Sun which is Class G, Sirius for example is an Class A star. This A star is a Giant, too and has the Subclass 0 (largest) and Luminosity class IV=4, which is a “cold” A-Star. But it is really hot due its size and mass. The colors represent the Temperature zones of the System. Red is very hot close to the Star, Green is the Habitable zone where liquid Water is possible while Blue is too cold and frozen.

The white lines represent the Orbits of the Planets and the violet line the size of our own Solar System in comparison (Pluto Orbit, approximate 40 AU). The first Planet is 17 AU away (AU = Astronomical Units = 1 AU is the distance from Sun to Earth). This is the approximate Orbit of the 7th Planet Uranus in our Solar System. Uranus is a very cold Gas planet, this Planet here is completely molten and has an average Temperature of 1.400 Degrees Celsius. This means: only a few hundred degrees more and Iron would melt!

There are even hotter and larger Stars out there than this A Star but many others them have Temperate planets like our Earth. If the algorithm finds an Earthlike Planet it is calculating the “ESI” (Earth Similarity Index) of it. Once I found a “second Earth” with an ESI of 95 which is very, very good (100 is maximum possible).

It is really fascinating to browse through different Star Systems and suddenly you find a second Earth.
